"Welcome to the Harvard Club of Naples"
Dear Harvard Alums:
Welcome to another season of The Harvard Club of Naples and to a diverse selection of programs that we hope you will enjoy. Our year begins with a "Welcome Back" reception on November 6, 2014 at 5:30 PM at the Pelican Marsh Community Center. In an effort to provide additional opportunity for members to socialize, later in the season we will have a "Mixer by the Decades" cocktail party that will group members according to the decade in which they received their Harvard degree. We are still planning this event and welcome your suggestions and help.
Again this year, our luncheon programs include presentations by Club members, community leaders, and Harvard faculty. We also have two nature outings--Bird Watching and a Nature Conservancy tour, as well as two sports events—the Harvard-Yale football game luncheon, and a Red Sox game. The annual Harvard-Yale-Princeton Economic Forum will be hosted by Fiduciary Trust Corporation, and we will also join our Ivy and Seven Sisters colleagues for an Ivy Fest in April. Our arts programs include a Baker Museum exhibit along with some unique offerings. This season we have the honor of hosting the Harvard Glee Club for a dinner and concert on March 20, 2015. Many of our members already have volunteered to house the student singers, but we need more; so please see this article and reach out if you can help.
Our theatre programs feature two blockbusters that represent the beginning and current status of the "book musical" that integrates songs and dances into a dramatic narrative. “Oklahoma” will be a nostalgia treat; and "The Book of Mormon," has won 9 Tony and 4 Olivier Awards, and is modestly billed as "The Best Musical of This Century." See you there!
To join in the fun, intellectual stimulation, and camaraderie, please sign up now for this season’s Club membership. Our dues remain a modest $50, which we use for administrative expenses. You can print out and mail this physical membership form with your check. Or, thanks to improvements in our website, you can pay your dues online with a credit card. During the year, you also will be able to sign up and pay for Club events either online or by regular mail. Please indicate on your membership form whether you prefer to get Club communications via regular mail, email, or both.
When you complete your membership form, please consider contributing to the Club's Schools and Education Fund that supports our educational and charitable initiatives. These activities include scholarships and summer internships for local Harvard College students, fellowships for local high school education leaders and local leaders of nonprofit organizations to attend Harvard University summer workshops, the Harvard Book Prize to outstanding juniors at Naples area high schools, and Harvard College recruitment receptions. We will keep you apprised of these activities during the year.
Along with the other Harvard Club Officers and Directors, I look forward to seeing you at our events, and I welcome your suggestions.
With best wishes,
Jeanne E. Gullahorn, President
